Henri 'Papillon' Charriere, unjustly convicted of murder, is a man who has been involved in petty crimes. However, due to this unjust sentence, he is transferred to Devil's Island, a high-security prison notorious for its reputation in France. In the prison, he meets Louis Dega, a wealthy but vulnerable man who agrees to finance his friend's prison escape in exchange for protection. An intriguing friendship develops between the two, and they embark on a plan for their escape...

The 1973 film, which starred Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen, has been adapted again with new generation actors Charlie Hunnam as our new King Arthur and Rami Malek, who gained fame with his role in Mr. Robot. The cast also includes Eve Hewson, Roland Møller, Michael Socha, Christopher Fairbank, Brian Vernel, and Ian Beattie. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and is directed by Danish filmmaker Michael Noer. The screenplay was written by Aaron Guzikowski, the writer of "Prisoners" and "Contraband."
